The third Drizzt novel, detailing his emergence to the surface world.
I’m a huge fan. I’ve read the whole drizzt series and the cover art was always amazing to me. I would sit and explore every inch of each new cover with my eyes.. they evoke excitement and fascination in me… You are the man. Thanks for being my favorite artist.
Having been a fan of your art for Magic: the Gathering cards, I was stunned and a bit embarrassed that I never realized that you created the book covers for the Drizzt Do’Urden sagas of RA Salvatore. Having read every one of them, I would (and still do) marvel at your cover art and meeting you at the Alamo Comic Con in San Antonio, TX was a great pleasure.
“Sojourn” is probably my favorite piece of your art portfolio (though honestly it’s hard to be critical of any of it) for a great many reasons. While I greatly identified with Drizzt (Salvatore’s character) for a many personal reasons, this one piece evokes so many Jungian Archetypes and Symbols in me. It is meaningful & purposeful without overwhelming the observer, whether accidental or intended. It has a balance, that leads the observer from archetype to archetype and symbol to symbol without ‘train wreaking’ it with a cluttered mess.
1) The Destroyer, The Sage, The Warrior, The Magician (Drizzt)
2) His emergence from the Underdark as a Birth or in this case, Rebirth (Drizzt)
3) Drizzt’s ‘Jungian Anima’ (Guenhwyvar)
4) The Jungian “Wise Old Man’ (Montolio)
5) The Jungian Shadow (Tephanis the Quickling)
Anyways, getting off of my ‘soap box’, essentially I just wanted to say “Thank you” for sharing your talents and I wish you the best on your new book series!
Lance A. Williams
Thank you, Lance! “Sojourn” is my best-selling Drizzt cover as a print. I would obviously have to give a nod to Bob Salvatore for all context, but I enjoyed that cover a lot. I realized later that I channeled the Rocky Mountains of my childhood into that landscape.
Beautiful scenery! You have an amazing amount of talent..
